I am a regenerative futures advocate, planetary health educator, researcher, writer, presenter and coach with over 35 years of international experience helping others to create a better world for all.
I work mainly from my home base in Western Australia, but I can occasionally be found elsewhere in the world. Having broadly taught ‘Responsible Business’ at a top Australian University for the past 28 years, I recently retired from FT academic work to focus on my own writing and presentation projects.
Before working on whatever the regenerative project of the day is, as a year round open water (wild) swimmer I can be found in the Indian ocean, but also sometimes in Lakes and other water courses in the State and beyond. I am also an avid mountain biker and bikepacker (off-road cycle touring) and I enjoy spending time riding on the beautiful trails located in the hills close to where I live. In addition, I am a 16-year student of the Shakuhachi, the Japanese bamboo flute, as well as a 23-year student of Tibetan Buddhism.
Whatever your passions, please join me in helping to enable this beautiful planet of ours flourish.
About my writing
At this early stage in the development of this blog, I thought it worth saying a little about my background and the writing style that I am endeavouring to adopt in my various posts.
As an academic researcher, over the past 35 years I’ve been trained in the rules and conventions associated with scientific writing. As you can imagine therefore, I’ve honed my scientific writing skills down to a fine art. Writing mostly for academic colleagues and in a way consistent with the publishing requirements of top international publications, this style of writing became second nature to me. I’ve been reasonably successful in that regard with over 58 peer-reviewed papers, a few in review and ongoing, an edited book, eight book chapters, research reports, public policy submissions, monographs and so on.
My writing has mostly therefore been targeted to academic colleagues via top Journals in my field. My main goal now that I have retired from paid University employment, is to reach a much wider audience. As a consequence, I’m learning a new craft i.e., how to write about sometimes complex but important issues without the jargon. For the most part therefore, you won’t see the usual in-text citations in my posts unless I am clearly referring to someone else’s work directly. Where I do, I’ll include relevant references at the foot of the post.
Most of the time though, I’ll be writing without direct reference to other peoples work. Having said that, I acknowledge upfront that the ideas contained in this blog will also have been informed by the work and ideas of other people. These will undoubtedly have shaped my own knowledge-base and thinking over time. My intention is to treat this blog as an opportunity to think-out-aloud. My thinking will therefore develop, and may even change course as I progress. I make no apologies for this. Call it my preferred learning style if you like. Trial and error.
On the subject of errors, I wish to highlight that any errors in what I write and/or the interpretation of another person’s work are purely my own. If you spot any glaring errors, please let me know by writing to me using my email address provided in the Contact page. Once verified, I’ll amend any errors as required.
Stating perhaps the obvious, I’m not submitting this blog for peer-review, and therefore it is not my intention for it to be read as such. In fact, I hope that the ideas that you read about here will spur you into not only developing your own as you further inform yourself via other sources, but also as a consequence, act as seeds leading you to engage in some behaviourally positive way as you join like-minded others co-create a regenerative future.
With gratitude
Dr. Dave Webb (Dave)
